Washington politicians continue to fail our Veterans

Veterans wait significantly longer for appointments at the Veterans Affairs hospital in Iowa City than at the one in Des Moines, newly disclosed data show.

The VA’s goal is to set appointments for new patients within 14 days. The database, which national VA officials released to USA TODAY, showed the agency met that goal for only 40 percent of 356,000 patients. At the Des Moines facility, 52 percent of new patients were seen within 14 days. At Iowa City, only 29 percent were.
